Restoring the Family Workbook

“And when these things have come upon you, the blessings and the curses which I have set before you, and you call them to mind…then the Lord your God shall restore…” Deuteronomy 30:1-3
A family is an outward and visible expression of God’s blessings that we can see. The life of a new born baby that comes from the marriage covenant of a man and woman is a wonderful example of a blessing from God. Marriage is a covenant between God and a man and a woman. God honors marriage, and He blesses it with all spiritual blessings. But, as we look around our community and churches we can see many families that are not experiencing blessings.

Curses
What is a curse? I believe a curse is something that is affecting you that is not due to your own wrongdoing. This would be the case when children grow up in a home where there is abuse and divorce. The children are innocent and suffer as they watch the war rage between the two people that said they would love each another for the rest of their life, but don’t show it. The children become innocent casualties of their parent’s lack of love.
One day I asked the Lord, “Will this war between my parents? The answer I received was, “Yes, I will restore all the years you have lost.” I had lost many years of my life because I felt rejection instead of love from my parents. Then my own family began experiencing many problems similar to what I had lived in as a child. As I read through Deuteronomy 28:15-44, I could see we were under the affects of the curse that follows people who have divorced parents.
